Class Descriptions > Nia

Nia at Blue Lotus is a dance party for your body, mind, and spirit. Krista weaves Freedance and strength conditioning with a wide variety of music into Classic Nia routines. Focusing on one routine each month, she teaches the form and conditioning function of each of the Nia 52 moves, breaking down somatic choreography so that you can customize the intensity of your workout. Level 1 can be appropriate for anyone new to Nia, or healing an injury, or just feeling lower energy. Levels 2 and 3 provide enough complexity to forget your to-do list and reach a flow state of energy, and Level 4 is a truly athletic workout using intervals, body-weight strength conditioning, freeform movement, and moving up and down from the floor. Wild and playful, poignant and real, loud, intense, ridiculous, restful – Krista’s classes can be hard to describe, but they are always real.

As a holistic lifestyle practice, Nia provides a workout that you can take with you to enhance the pleasure and function of living in and with your physical body. Nia integrates nine movement forms from dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts (including Yoga) and no dance experience is required. Nia tends to attract women at an unselfconscious age who create an empowered positive experience for the group. Nia is also great for Men who want to dance and have fun while gaining greater mobility in the joints as a complement to activities like running. Nia’s holistic conditioning increases flexibility, agility, mobility, stability, and strength.

The fundamental principle of Nia is the Joy of Movement – moving energy through the joints, muscles, bones of your body helps you sense your body and tap into universal life force energy. Music and sound opens and conditions emotional variety, and imagination and play stimulate the mental realm. Body, mind, emotion, and spirit – what is the uniqueness that YOU will bring to Nia at Blue Lotus?
